1. Why do I need Travel Insurance?

One usually travels abroad for various reasons- a pleasure trip, a business trip, a study trip etc. You do not want anything to ruin your hard earned holiday, foreign study or your crucial business meeting. But there is a possibility of some unexpected occurrence no matter how perfect the planning is. Unfortunate events such as baggage loss, passport loss, a medical emergency or an accident can affect you. Having Overseas Travel Insurance protects you from all such perils. It ensures that in the unknown foreign land. You are not left stranded in any kind of an emergency.

2. What is a premium?

Premium is the fixed amount of sum paid over the period by the insured to the insurance company to take insurance policy and to complete the contract of insurance.

3. Who is eligible to apply?

All Malaysians, Permanent Residents, Employment Pass/Work Permit Holders and Dependant(s) of Pass Holders, excluding overseas secondment & students studying overseas.

4. What is the age limit?

You must be between 18 and 70 years old (both ages inclusive) to be eligible for enrolment. For Family Plan, a child must be between 30 days and 18 years old (both ages inclusive) or up to 23 years old, if he/she is studying full-time in a recognised institution of higher learning.

6. Who is eligible to be covered under the Family Plan?

The Family Plan includes you, your spouse and up to 9 accompanying children between 30 days and 18 years old (both ages inclusive) or up to 23 years old, if he/she is studying full-time in a recognised institution of higher learning.

What happens if I have a medical emergency overseas?

If you have a medical emergency overseas, you can visit the doctors for treatment and claim it back when you return to Malaysia. Do note that you have to provide all official receipts and doctor’s letter for your claims. If you need any urgent assistance, you can contact our 24 hours hotline at +603 - 2142 0399.

Can I buy travel insurance if I use overland transport to Singapore or Southern Thailand?

Yes. However, you are not entitled to claim flight related benefits.

Do you cover for domestic? For example, flying from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu?

Yes, we do have SmartTraveller Domestic.

Do you cover winter sports (i.e. skiing), hiking, trekking and scuba diving?

Yes, we do cover winter sports, scuba diving and hiking/trekking in remote areas if accompanied with licensed guides (no height limit), subject to policy conditions and exclusions.

Do you cover for car rental excess?

Yes, we do cover for car rental excess under VIP and annual plans (Car rental excess requires that you hire a car and it gets damaged or stolen) The 'Excess' (also known as the 'Deductible') is the amount of money you have to pay under a car rental contract as a result of loss or damage to the rented car arising from an accident.

Do you cover home contents during the travel period?

Yes, we do cover for home contents under our VIP and annual plans.

Does your travel insurance cover pregnant women?

Yes, we do. But we do not cover claims arising from pregnancy including childbirth caesarean operation, abortion, miscarriage and all related complications except miscarriage due to bodily injury as a direct result of an accident.

If I cancel my trip, do I get my money back?

Trip cancellation coverage is available only on our VIP and annual plans, provided that you purchase your travel insurance at least 14 days before your trip. We will pay for your pre-paid irrecoverable fees if you have to cancel your trip due to incidents such as;
Your death, Serious Injury or Serious Illness or the death, Serious Injury or Serious Illness of Your Immediate Family Member
Unexpected outbreak of strike, riot or civil commotion
Witness summons
Serious damage to your residence.
Do note that you have to first get a refund from the relevant parties before claiming from us, and we will pay for the outstanding amount.

Do you provide flight and accommodation refunds if I’m unable to travel?

Yes, we will pay for your pre-paid irrecoverable fees should you be unable to make a trip due to valid reasons (ie. Sickness & injury with official doctor’s letter). Do note that you have to first get a refund from the relevant parties such as airline, travel agency and hotel before claiming from us, and we will pay for the outstanding amount.

What is Pre-existing Medical Conditions, and can I still purchase travel insurance with these conditions?

Pre-existing Medical Conditions means any condition for which you have received medical treatment, diagnosis, consultation or prescribed drugs within a six(6) month period preceding the effective date of this Policy or, a condition for which medical advice or treatment was recommended by a registered Medical Practitioner within a six(6) month period preceding the effective date of the Policy.
You can still purchase our travel insurance, but any recurring conditions from the pre-existing medical conditions will not be covered.

Who do you cover under family plan?

The family plan covers you, your legal spouse and your legal children.
The eligibility age for adults is:
Single trip - 18 to 79
Annual Policy – 18 to 69
Children must be aged between 30 days and 18 years old or up to 23 years old if he/she is studying full time in a recognised institution of higher learning.

How do I file for a claim?

How do I claim for my medical bills when I get sick during my travel?

You can first pay for your medical bills when you are overseas and make your claims when you return to Malaysia. Do note that you will need the official doctor letter and receipt to make your claims.

What do I do if my luggage is delayed by the transport provider?

We will pay if your checked-in baggage is delayed for each full 6 consecutive hours (RM200 for every 6 hours) upon arrival at your destination abroad. Make sure you get a written report from the transport provider confirming the delaying and how long it was for. Details of the limits of your cover can be found in the combined PDS you received with your policy documents.

How long will it take for me to receive my claims?

Upon receipt of full documents, we will revert with claim decision within 14 working days. Once claim is approved, payment will be made within 3 working days.

What documents will I need when submitting my claims?

I am travelling to multiple countries but selection is only one country. How do I choose which destination to enter?

AXA Travel Insurance covers when you travel to multiple countries. You can choose the furthest country by distance from Malaysia.
For example, if you are going to multiple European countries like UK, France, Switzerland and Germany, you can select UK as your destination.
If you are going to Singapore, Taiwan and US, you can select US as your destination.

How to make payment?

There are 2 payment methods,

Do you need the children's NRIC number? How to buy for kid?

Yes, we do need the children's NRIC number for our records. Alternatively, you can use the children’s MyKid number to make your purchase.

My flight back to Malaysia is at night and I will only land on the following day, which date should I select while purchasing my travel insurance?

You should select the date you arrive back in Malaysia, the following day for the travel insurance to be valid.

SpecialCare Personal Accident covering for spectrum / down syndrome / dyslexia / learning disability related disease or accident risk.
This Policy provides 24 hours worldwide protection to the Insured for Injury caused directly by an Accident.

Who is eligible for this cover?

This cover eligible to any full time student aged between 2 and 17 years old, in a recognized educational institution.

What is the Premium amount for the cover?

Premium for this Policy is RM53.00 for one (1) year Period of Insurance.

Are there any other fees and charges to be paid?

Stamp Duty of RM10.00 if purchase by standalone.

What are the major exclusions under this policy?

What are the key terms and conditions that the Policyholder should be aware of?

  1. Coverage is for student age limit range 2 till 17 years.
  2. No cancellation is allowed once Policy has been issued.
  3. Claims – Upon occurrence of an Accident which falls within the Policy coverage, the Policyholder and/or the Insured shall notify us immediately or within fourteen (14) days of the occurrence in the case of Injury.

How do I make a claim?

In the event of any Accident, Injury or Loss that may or gives rise to a claim under this Policy, You (or the Insured Person, where possible and applicable) shall:

  1. Notify P&L Agency in writing as soon as possible and in any case within Fourteen (14) days after the occurrence of the circumstance or event of such Accident, Injury and/or Loss, with full particular pertaining to the Accident, Injury and/or Accidental Death, as the case may be; and
  2. Ensure that as soon as possible after any Accident or Injury the Insured Person receives proper medical attention and thereafter observe the advice rendered by the Medical Practitioner; and
  3. at Your expenses, or at the expense of any person representing the Insured Person, provide Us with all reports, certificates, information and other relevant documents as We may reasonably require to process the claim.

What is this product about?

This Policy provides 24 hours worldwide protection to the Insured for Injury caused directly by an Accident (and independent of any other cause) resulting in death, disablement, medical and other expenses within twelve (12) calendar months from the date of the Accident.

Who is eligible for this cover?

This cover eligible to any full time student aged between 3 and 23 years old, in a recognized educational institution.

What is the Premium amount for the cover?

Premium for this Policy is RM20 for one (1) year Period of Insurance.

Are there any other fees and charges to be paid?

  1. Commission to the insurance agent - 25%
  2. Stamp duty - RM10

What are the key terms and conditions that the Policyholder should be aware of?

  • Duty of disclosure – the Policyholder must disclose all material facts which he/she knows or ought to know such as the Policyholder’s and/or the Insured’s personal pursuits which could affect the risk profile.   • The Insured should take all reasonable precautions to prevent theft incidents.
